Third quarter woes spell defeat for Trojans
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Nov. 28, 2019) - Inconsistent play continues to plague the SAIT Trojans women's basketball team.
After a good first half, the Trojans disappeared in the third as they fell 73-48 to the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks in their rare Thursday night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game.
"Digging ourselves a hole when we have those lapses," said Trojans head coach Bir Parmar. "If we're going to win, we need to play as close to 40 minutes as possible. We can't give teams a head start like the one we gave them after halftime."
SAIT falls to 3-6 on the season. Lethbridge improves to 5-4.
At halftime, SAIT looked good as they trailed the Kodiaks 33-29. Kendal Russell (2nd year, Strathmore, Alta., Academic Upgrading) had 19 of SAIT's points at that point.
In the third, Lethbridge College switched up their defence to limit Russell's chances. As a result, the Trojans scored just two points in the first 8:30 of the quarter.
"We were down 18-2 to start the quarter," Parmar added. "They changed what they were doing on the defensive end, and our girls didn't make the adjustment."
Russell failed to score in the second half, finishing with a team high 19 points.
Denajha Kie led the Kodiaks with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The teams will finish their weekend set Friday night back at SAIT in a 6pm tip-off.
