Trojan women move on to ACAC semifinal
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (March 16, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans women's futsal team is cruising right now.
The Trojans went 3-0-1 in their round robin play to finish first in their pool and vault them into Sunday's semifinal at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's and Women's Futsal Championships, hosted by Lethbridge College.
"We're feeling good, because everybody is contributing," said Trojans head coach John Talerico. "We're going into Sunday's semifinal confident, but not cocky."
SAIT will now meet The King's University Eagles in the Sunday morning semifinal at 11am. The winner from that will move on the championship final, set for 4:30pm.
King's finished 2-1 to finish in second place in their pool.
The key to the Trojans success this weekend has been their defensive play. SAIT has allowed just six goals in four games so far.
"One way to prevent goals is to keep control of the ball, and we have been doing a fantastic job of that so far," Talerico explained. "If we continue to do that, and play smart, we should be successful."
Saturday's games consisted of a 6-1 win over Ambrose University to start the day, and a 2-2 tie with the hosts to finish it up.
On the men's side, the Trojans' weekend is over after going winless in three games over the course of the last two days.
The Trojans dropped both of their games on Saturday - 7-2 to the Keyano College Huskies, and 8-3 to the Lakeland College Rustlers.
