Trojans come up short against Queens
CALGARY, (Feb. 15, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans women's hockey team will not go away quietly.
Despite a tough season, the Trojans battled and battled, but fell 4-3 to the visiting Red Deer College Queens on Friday night in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played inside SAIT's Campus Centre.
SAIT falls to 5-15 on the season. Red Deer College jumps to 10-9-4.
After spotting the Queens a 2-0 lead on goals by Sydnee Decorby and Neisha Germann, the Trojans responded with a pair of second-period goals of their own to tie the game.
The first came off the stick of Brittany MacDonald (2nd year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration), while the second came nearly four minutes later from Davina McLeod (3rd year, Academic Upgrading, Aklavik, NWT).
The Queens took back the lead late in the second when Germann scored her second of the contest.
MacDonald evened things up again, this time just 16 seconds into the final period.
The score stayed that way for nearly 18 minutes before Germann completed her hat trick late to give the Queens a lead they would not relinquish again.
In a rare occurrence, the Trojans will host the Queens again on Saturday – this time in a matinee affair set for 2pm at the Campus Centre.
