Trojans earn wins in crosstown battle with Lions
CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 11, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans men's and women's soccer teams didn't have to leave the city to play their road games Friday night, and maybe that worked in their favour.
The teams each earned victories over crosstown rival Ambrose University in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) games played under the lights at Rundle College - the women a 4-0 decision, the men a 4-1 result.
The victory gives the Trojans women's team a 3-3-2 record. The host Lions fall to 0-8.
"It was great to see them play as a team tonight," said Trojans women's head coach John Talerico. "And even the girls acknowledged that; they were really happy to see a total team effort."
Jade Metz (1st year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) scored a pair of goals in the win, while Skye Gordon (3rd year, Langley, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Kenzie Georgian (1st year, Chestermere, Alta., Architectural Technologies) added solo markers.
In the men's game, SAIT received goals from four different players, as they beat the Lions 4-1.
Zach Michaud (1st year, Calgary, Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles), Bernardo Rojas (4th year, Grande Prairie, Alta., Electrician), Yusuph Kalenga (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., English Language Foundations) and Armando Garcia (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration) all found the back of the net in the win.
SAIT improves to 6-1-1 on the year. Ambrose falls to 0-8.
Both teams will be in action on Sunday, as they host the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings at Cohos Commons Field - the women at noon, the men at 2pm.
