Trojans split in Red Deer
RED DEER, ALTA., (Oct. 27, 2018) — The SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team knew they were going to be in for a tougher test tonight, but they were still able to pull out the win.
Down two sets, the Trojans took the next three to beat the host Red Deer College Queens 3-2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-7, 25-23, 15-9) in their Saturday night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest.
"Since last weekend, I have put a more veteran lineup in and they're taking charge and showing the way to the younger players," said Trojans head coach, Art O'Dwyer, whose team has now won four straight games. "It's good to have a veteran, gritty team, but we're just doing a good job of exploiting weaknesses on the other side of the net."
SAIT moves to 5-2 on the year. Red Deer falls to 1-5.
Jadyn Leong (2nd year, Calgary, Emergency Medical Technician) had a monster game for the Trojans, recording a game-high 21 kills to go along with 12 digs. Teammate Simran Dhami (5th year, Golden, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration) added nine kills and seven blocks.
Katrina Dawe led the Queens with 14 kills.
On the men's side of things, the Trojans started well but could not finish strong.
After taking Set 1, the Trojans dropped the next three to lose 3-1 (23-25, 25-7, 25-20, 25-22).
SAIT falls to 3-4 on the year. The Kings improve to 3-3.
Mark Anderson (4th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) led the Trojans with 12 kills.
The Trojans will return to the court on Friday, Nov. 9 when they head across the city to take on the host Ambrose University Lions. The women start at 6pm, the men follow at 8pm.
