Trojans open 2020 with loss to Clippers
CALGARY, ALTA., (Jan. 10, 2020) - The SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team opened the new year with a very tough test.
The Trojans started well, but could not do enough to hold off the No. 2 ranked team in the country, losing 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-16) to the Briercrest College Clippers in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played Friday night at SAIT's Campus Centre.
"We played well for two sets, just ran out of gas in the third," said Trojans head coach, Art O'Dwyer. "We did some of the things we wanted to do early, but once again, they adjusted and did something different and we didn't adjust back. That was the sum of it."
SAIT falls to 2-13 on the season. Briercrest improves to a perfect 13-0.
Jadyn Leong (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) led the Trojans with seven kills, five digs and three service aces.
Rebecca Garner dominated for the Clippers, recording a game-high 14 kills.
The teams will have a quick turnaround, as they meet again Saturday afternoon at SAIT at 1pm.
"We had a lot of errors tonight, and that's totally mental," O'Dwyer said. "We just have to get mentally tougher, that's all."
