WVB | Fauve Welsh Named Head Coach
The SAIT Trojans Athletics and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Fauve Welsh as their new women’s volleyball head coach.
Welsh joins the Trojans after spending three seasons playing against them as a member of the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (2015-2017). As a middle blocker, Welsh helped the Queens earn an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) title in the 2014-15 season and an ACAC bronze medal in 2016-17.
A teacher by trade, Welsh has been coaching since 2014 and is excited to return to the ACAC in a different capacity. She hopes the experience gained in both her playing and coaching career will provide the Trojans women’s volleyball team a strong base to grow and develop from.
“I am excited to be a part of the Trojans women’s volleyball program” said Welsh. “I have been looking towards and am very motivated to make the next jump in my coaching career. SAIT is the perfect fit for me and I look forward to getting to know the athletes and immersing myself in the strong ACAC competition”.
An NCCP Advanced Development Level Coach, Welsh is currently coaching on the men’s side of the sport – leading the U15 Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club. She is also an assistant coach with Team Alberta’s U16 Boys and U15 Girls squads. She also recently acted as head coach for the U15 boys team for Zone 3 – Alberta Winter Games.
“I am not sure I have met someone who loves volleyball as much as Fauve does - her energy is infectious and her knowledge of the game is impressive. She is a young and motivated coach who is ready to make a name for herself at the collegiate level,” said Trojans Manager of Athletic and Recreation, Lauren Kucera. “It’s apparent that she is competitive, wants to win and will push her team to be the best that they can be. We need more female leaders in sport and are confident Fauve is the right one to take on this role.”
ACAC volleyball kicks off in October 2024, with the Trojans volleyball teams making Rally Pointe home for all ACAC league games. Follow along on social media and at saittrojans.com for more information as we get closer to the start of the 24-25 season.
