XC | 24 Season Recap
Trojans XC showed up and showed out for the cross country season this year, accumulating tremendous successes at every competition.
SAIT’s men's and women's cross-country teams dominated the field this season. After four successful grand prix, with four total 1st place finishes, the Trojans runners showed out at the ACAC championships, including Makenna Fitzgerald and Nathan Woyessa both taking home first place in their respective races.
At the championships, the four women’s runners all finished in the top 20 of 47. Makenna Fitzgerald took 1st, Sonjaa Schmidt 4th, Hallee Pilling 15th and Kerigan Frampton 18th. With a time of 21:43, Fitzgerald beat second place by over two minutes.
On the men’s side, three Trojans came top five, including first place, and three more finished in the top 25 of 61. Nathan Woyessa finished on top, with Maximus Thiessen claiming 3rd, Keiran Marchand 5th, Elsami Rosa-Molina 14th, Maxwell Reisinger 21st and Brian Rono 24th.
All 10 runners would make their way to nationals on Nov. 11 in Nova Scotia.
At nationals, Makenna Fitzgerald continued to prove herself as the best college runner in Canada, taking another first place with a time of 20:59. Sonjaa Schmidt finished 29th, Kerigan Frampton 59th, and Hallee Pilling 72nd.
The women’s team impressively finished 6th in the country.
Maximus Thiessen capped off his amazing season - after winning Grand Prix 2 and 3 - by finishing 5th in Canada at nationals with a time of 25:17. Nathan Woyessa, who won at the ACAC championships, finished 17th, and right behind his was Keiran Marchand in 20th. Elsami Rosa-Molina finished 43rd, Brian Rono 71st and Max Reisinger 77th.
The men’s team ended nationals with a podium finish, in third place.
Congratulations to every Trojan runner on such a successful season, proving again that SAIT is a top cross-country school in Canada.
